Our Children: Children in the Hibiscus Shelter and Village receive professional mental health services on a regular basis to help them recover from the trauma of abuse. Children in our community receive Community Mental Health services at our office or a convenient location for the client.

Our Staff: Our clinical staff consists of mental health professionals with a wide range of experience and expertise in child and family therapy.  Our licensed therapists are trained in a variety of age appropriate and best practice treatment interventions including Play Techniques, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).

Mental Health Services: Professional services are provided to children and youth in our residential programs and community mental health. Hibiscus specializes in the treatment of trauma-based disorders, behavioral health, infant mental health, and healing victims of sexual abuse.  The children also receive psychiatric services such as medication management in conjunction with our counseling services to ensure the best outcomes.

Trauma Informed Care: Hibiscus Children’s Center provides each child in our programs with services designed to reach identified treatment goals and objectives through a trauma-informed approach utilizing the Sanctuary Model.

Infant Mental Health: Serves children ages birth to 5 years and their caregivers to strengthen bonding and attachment issues as well as enhancing parenting techniques. Understanding infant mental health is the key to preventing and treating the mental health problems of very young children and their families. It also helps guide the development of healthy social and emotional behaviors.

Sexual Abuse Treatment Program: Specialized treatment services for children in our residential programs and in the community who are victims of sexual abuse, as well as for their families. Child sexual abuse includes the victimization of a child by sexual activities, including molestation, indecent exposure, fondling, rape and incest.  We help families recover, working to prevent further sexual victimization while enabling families to develop healthy, non-abusive relationships.

Hibiscus Children’s Center is the only Department of Health sanctioned Sexual Abuse Treatment Program on the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee County.

Mental Health Services Video

We invite you to watch a video that highlights the professional Mental Health services that Hibiscus provides to our children in the Shelter and Village, as well as to the community.

Caroline Vinyard, COO, is joined by Lacey Buxton, Director of Outpatient Services/Sexual Abuse Treatment Program Coordinator, and Susan Murphy, Director of Residential Clinical Services.

Hibiscus Children’s Center has partnered with Harmony Hope Stables to provide the children living at the Jensen Beach Shelter with Equine & Music Therapy. This new, innovative therapeutic approach will bring transformational healing for children and reach them in a way traditional therapies cannot.  This unique program is an expansion of our current mental health program for children and helps build self-esteem and life skills.
