Kiwanis Club of Vero – Treasure Coast Provides Scholarships to Hibiscus Youth

Vero Beach, FL – The Kiwanis Club of Vero – Treasure Coast knows the importance of education for youth. Each year, the Kiwanis Club awards scholarships from proceeds of their Annual Kiwanis Golf Tournament to local teens. Several youth living at the Hibiscus Children’s Village have been recipients of the Kiwanis Club’s generosity over the past three years. The youth who live at the Village have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. Unfortunately, this very often deeply affects the teen’s educational needs. The Village provides youth, ages 13-17 years, with a safe home-like environment where they receive medical and dental services, therapeutic counseling, educational services and career preparation and training.

This year, two youth received scholarships to help them attend college. Kalila Johnson and Anna Threewitts, both 18 years old, will be attending Indian River State College. They both lived at the Village prior to turning 18 and are now ready to start their new journey into adulthood. The Kiwanis Club’s support is providing Kalila and Anna with opportunities to strengthen and enhance their academic development and set the foundation for a bright future. Hibiscus Children’s Center is very grateful to The Kiwanis Club of Vero – Treasure Coast for their generosity, vision and support of the educational needs of our youth. You are truly making a difference in the lives of teens and greatly impacting their future.
