Hibiscus Children’s Center Thanks Volunteers

Treasure Coast, FL  – Volunteers have been described as someone who contributes time, effort and talent to meet a need or further a mission without pay.  That is exactly what the Hibiscus Children’s Center’s volunteers do – help further our mission to provide safety and shelter to abused children and help them recover.  We could not accomplish this critical mission without our wonderful volunteers!   During April, we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation, but every day of the year we are thankful for these selfless partners who provide helping hands to support and take care of our precious children.

Last year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, our volunteers were not able to come to the Shelter, Village and Thrift Store for many months. Over time, some of our volunteers have returned to help at our facilities, following all CDC safety guidelines.  Like many non-profits, we have missed our volunteer’s daily involvement and look forward to the day when we can all work side-by-side again.   Although we have not been able to see many of our volunteers, they have been working behind the scenes to assist us.  A few examples are sewing masks, donating personal protection equipment, cooking meals, providing goodies to celebrate holidays and birthdays, sorting donations for the Thrift Store, cleaning windows and yardwork at the Shelter and Village, just to name a few.

The Pandemic has also resulted in cancelling our fundraising events this past year, but that hasn’t slowed our wonderful Martin County and Indian River County Guild members down!  These dynamic volunteers are working with community partners to raise funds, host online events, and continue to advocate for the needs of our children.

There is no way to begin to quantify how volunteers make a difference in our world, but we know our children feel the positive effects in their lives. These amazing people spread joy and compassion, love and kindness, and help ensure our children have a brighter and better future.  Hibiscus Children’s Center is deeply grateful and thanks every volunteer for their past, present and continued support of our children.  Every volunteer, in their own unique way, has truly made a significant difference in the lives of our children.

Matt Markley, Hibiscus CEO, shared “I would like to thank the hundreds of men and women who have volunteered at one of our facilities over the years.  On behalf of the kids, thanks to each of you for being someone we can count on.”

Hibiscus welcomes new volunteers and requires background checks.  Volunteers are needed at the Shelter and Village, especially during the summer months when our children are out of school.  All CDC guidelines are followed at our facilities.  If you would like more information about how you can get involved, please visit us at HibiscusChildrensCenter.org or contact us at:  Jensen Beach Shelter – Stephanie Taylor at (772) 334-9311, ext. 110; Vero Beach Village – Donna Clements at (772) 299-6011 ext. 334; and Hibiscus Treasure House (Stuart) – Neil Poirier at (772) 692-5730.
