St. Lucie County, FL – The Hibiscus Children’s Center Passport to Wine and Dine was an exciting evening! This delicious adventure whisked guests around the world to visit Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Argentina, Australia and the United States where they sampled food and wine pairings in each region. Whether sampling Bruschetta from Italy, Beef Wellington from France, or the popular Dijon & Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb from Australia, our travelers were treated to an array of delicious cuisine while enjoying the beautiful outdoor setting at the PGA Village. Haniya Shareef, 16-year old classical pianist, serenaded the guests as they arrived.
Over 50 beautifully packaged silent auction items were up for bid and many guests took home terrific items that were kindly contributed to the Hibiscus auction. During the evening, guests generously donated to help abused children and received a very special gift hand-painted by the children.
The highlight of the evening was our musical guest, James Slater. A two-time Grammy nominated artist direct from Nashville, James is a family friend of Hibiscus Past Board Chair, Robert Lowe, Sr. James entertained the guests and they even sang along to several popular songs, including the award-winning song he wrote for Martina McBride, “In My Daughter’s Eyes”. James’ songs have also been recorded by several other famous artists, including Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw and Reba McEntire, to name a few. This lovely event grew in excitement when James’ mother, Mrs. Alicia Slater, delighted the crowd with a beautiful rendition of the Spanish song “Besame Mucho”. It was a truly delightful evening for all who came out to support the children and help to brighten their lives.
