Treasure Coast, FL -- Hibiscus Children’s Center is pleased to announce that a $2,500 grant was received from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. This generous donation will help fund the Hibiscus Children’s Center Career Pathways to Independence Program. Hibiscus is excited to partner once again with Bank of America as together, we continue to help individuals and families access much needed basic human services and programs.
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation provides funding to meet the needs of communities and helping build thriving communities by addressing issues fundamental to economic health and sustainability. They are advancing economic mobility by addressing issues related to workforce development and education, community development, and basic needs.
The Career Pathways to Independence Program helps alleviate some of the stresses foster care youth face as they approach 18 and helps set the stage for lifelong success. This creative youth education program provides foster youth, ages 13 – 17 living at the Hibiscus Village, with innovative support, structure, and guidance they need to receive a high school diploma or GED and to provide them the best possible future. Additionally, the program will prepare foster youth for independence. The teens participate in forward-thinking career exploration, testing and assessments related to career interests, self-esteem, and work related personality, pre-employment training, multiple internships in local businesses, mentoring, and weekly structured focus groups seminars on topics including completing college and job applications, resume writing, creating a budget and more.
Trish (name changed for privacy) is a great example of how Bank of the America is helping our youth through their support of the Career Pathways Program. Trish resided at the Hibiscus Village for seven months before she aged out at 18 years. While at Hibiscus, she received her GED diploma and registered for college classes. While participating in the Career Pathways Program, she interned at a local business and as a result of her hard work, she was hired by this business for a full time position. Thank you to Bank of America for helping our youth succeed and helping them to build a strong foundation for the future.
