Hibiscus Programs and Services

Hibiscus Children's Center
Serving Martin, Indian River, St. Lucie and Okeechobee Counties

Hibiscus Children’s Center is currently celebrating saving children for three decades.  Our mission is to provide safety for abused, abandoned and neglected children through prevention programs, residential programs, shelter programs, and recovery programs.  From primary prevention to intervention, Hibiscus identifies strengths and capacities that are innate in all family systems, works in partnership to build family resiliency, and ensures children grow up free of abuse and neglect with the ability to reach their highest potential.  Child abuse, neglect and abandonment are the result of community problems … and Hibiscus understands that solutions are based on the commitment and investment of the community as a whole.

The Hibiscus Shelter, located in Jensen Beach, is a 36-bed emergency shelter for children – birth to twelve years of age who have been removed from their homes due to egregious abuse and neglect.  Children receive 24-hour awake supervision, educational, medical and dental care, and most importantly, psychological counseling in a safe, loving environment.

The Hibiscus Village is a group home facility; a more home-like setting to help teens successfully transition to foster, adoptive homes, and independent living at age 18.  The Village has group homes, a Career Center, and a GED Lab with a strong focus on preparing teens for the future.  Our newest program, Career Pathways to Independence Program, ensures teens are prepared to enter the workforce at age 18 or continue their education.

The Hibiscus Children's Center has provided over 250,000 nights of safety to children since opening its doors in 1985.

Hibiscus Supporting Families in Crisis is a nationally recognized abuse prevention program in St. Lucie County for families who voluntarily seek help.  Professional staff works hand in hand with family members to access community resources including housing, day care, and mental health services, as well as a support system to prevent abuse from occurring in the family.

Hibiscus Mental Health program provides outpatient mental health services to children, 0-18, and their families including psychiatric services, medication management, specialized treatment for child victims of sexual abuse. This program services children and their families in all four of the counties who are assessed as needing program services. In addition, residential mental health (Behavioral Health Overlay, BHOS) services are provided for the children and youth in our residential care programs.

Hibiscus Children’s Center works in collaboration with other Treasure Coast organizations to provide our children and families with the best care and services available.  Hibiscus is privileged to partner with so many wonderful agencies, organizations and businesses across the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee County to help the children and famlies who desperately need our help.

Hibiscus is a highly valuable resource for the State of Florida in the field of child abuse, neglect and abandonment.  Hibiscus actively works to remain at the forefront of best practices in child welfare through our membership in the Florida Coalition for Children, and being accredited through Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services.

Together, we Shelter Children, Strengthen Families, and Nurture Futures.
